Installing eG Manager 


  • Download eGmanager_linux.tar.gz and iManager_linux from eG site
  • Copy the installation files, eGmanager_linux.tar.gz and iManager_linux files in /tmp folder using filezilla or winscp client.
  • Move the /tmp folder and run the command gunzip eGmanager_linux.tar.gz to unzip the file.
  • Run the command chmod +x iManager_linux to provide execution privilege to the file
  • Run the command ./iManager_linux to start installation
  • Create a special eG user account called egurkha which is needed for installation.
  • This script will install the eG manager. The eG manager must be executed by a separate user. If you have already installed the eG agent, both the manager and agent must use the same user accounts and must be installed in the same directory.
  • Enter the name of the eG user: eguser
  • Mention the directory to which eG Manager needs to be installed [/opt]: [eG Manager have to be installed in in opt by default. Enter to continue]
  • Enter the group to which the eG user is to be associated [egurkha]: Press Enter to continue [If you want to use an existing user and/or group can be specified during this step- Enter to go by default]
  • Would you like the eG manager to auto-restart on system boot-up? y/n [n] : Y

 

The eG manager installation completed.


Configuring the eG Manager


  • Login as installed eG user
  • Move to /opt/egurkha/bin and run the ./setup_manager
  • Now we need to accept the eG licensing terms y/n : [y] ( Press y to accept the license terms )
  • Enter the full hostname or the IP address of the host: <<eG manager host name>>
  • Enter the port number for the eG Manager [7077]: <<Port number>>
  • Do you want the eG Manager to be SSL enabled y/n [n] : n ( Say if you want the eG manager use SSL for commuincation )
  • Please enter the location of your Java home directory [/usr]: (it is /opt/java1.6.0_10)
  • Do you require the eG Manager to be double-byte enabled (for East Asian languages) y/n ? n
  • Would you like to enable eG manager redundancy y/n [n]? n ( if you need a cluster setup , select y )
  • Choose the type of database server which you want to use for the eG Manager: [1] Oracle Database Server [2] Microsoft SQL Server (select 2 for Microsoft SQL ):

If you have selected the backend Database as MS SQL


  • When setting up the eG database, please ensure that you have sufficient space to host the eG database.
  • Do you want to continue the setup y/n? [y] : y
  • Enter the hostname (or IP address) of the MS SQL server:
  • Enter the port number of the MS SQL server [1433]: 1433 (If the MS SQL server being configured uses named instances, then specify none instead of the port number. On the next question it will ask you enter the instance name)
  • Does the SQL database server support SSL? y/n [n] : n ( say y if the SQL database uses SSL)
  • Does the SQL database server with NTLMv2? y/n : n
  • Do you want to use an existing database y/n? [y]: n (we are using this as we are creating a new database)
  • Enter the new database name: EGDB
  • The eG Manager requires a special database user account to store its measures. Enter the eG database user name : eguser
  • Enter the password for egurkha:
  • Do you want to create the 'egurkha' account now y/n? :y
  • Enter the DBA user name : sa ((eg., sa or in the form domainname/db_admin_username)
  • Enter the DBA password :


If you have selected the backend Database as ORACLE


  • Choose the type of database server which you want to use for the eG Manager: [1] Oracle Database Server [2] Microsoft SQL Server (select 1 for ORACLE ):
  • Do you want to continue the setup y/n? [y] :y
  • Enter the hostname (or IP address) of the Oracle server: ( enter the hostname or ip address of Oracle Server) : <<eG Manager host name>>
  • Enter the port number of the Oracle server [1521]: 1521
  • Enter the name of an Oracle instance (SID) that the eG Manager should use: [SID]
  • Enter the eG database user name [egurkha]: (we use this , The eG manager requires a special database user account to store its measures )
  • Enter the password for egurkha:
  • Does the 'egurkha' account already exist y/n? [n] : n
  • Do you want to create the ‘egurkha’ account now y/n? [y] ( Enter y to create the egurkha account )
  • Please enter the default tablespace for the user egurkha:
  • Please enter the temporary tablespace for the user egurkha:
  • When you install the eG manager with an Oracle database backend, the following tablespaces are specifically created for eG (create tablespace egurkhadata01 datafile 'C:\Oracle\ORADATA\egurkha\eGurkhaData01.dbf' size 10240M autoextend off extent management local autoallocate;)
  • Enter the DBA user name : ( The setup now prompts the user to enter the database administrator’s name and password)
  • Enter the DBA password :

 

Finally completion page with finish to confirm successful eG installation. Now deploy the license file in opt/egurkha/bin.


TIPS:-

 

  • To access the eG Manager on the browser, type in http(or)https://<<hostname/ip of the eG manager>:<<port number> to access the eG Manager.
  • To login to the eG Manager console, default user name : admin & password : admin
